Major Russian Attacks Cut Electricity Across Kyiv

Energy infrastructure under attack in Ukraine
Ukraine's energy systems have come under increased strikes in recent weeks

During the night, Russian missile and drone strikes have resulted in blackouts in multiple districts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

Nine people were injured while residents in eastern districts were left without electricity and dealt with problems to water systems, per reports from local authorities.

At the same time, a young boy was fatally injured in a separate aerial attack in the southeastern region in the southeastern part, based on information from area administrators.

Moscow has increased attacks on power infrastructure over the last fortnight, while Ukrainian leadership has called for "concrete actions" from allies to apply pressure on Moscow.

"The necessity is not superficial actions but firm measures - from the America, Europe and the G7 - in delivering air defence systems and applying penalties," was stated in a online statement.

He said that 450 drones and over thirty missiles struck energy facilities, labeling such attacks as "strategic and deliberate" and against "critical infrastructure" as temperatures become colder.

The energy minister said Russia was "launching a major assault" and maintenance teams were working to fix the damage.

A series of attacks hit energy infrastructure and civilian homes in the capital.

Five out of the nine people injured in the assaults on the city have been hospitalized, as confirmed by municipal representatives.

Area administrators said the metropolitan region came under significant strikes throughout the evening. A seven-year-old child was killed and three other people were injured.

The assaults follow periods of bombing campaigns in the region, sections of which are currently controlled by Russian forces.

The entire country is in a state of readiness for hypersonic Kinzhal missile strikes, which are tougher to identify.

Authorities told the media that Moscow was deliberately attempting to damage the country's energy grid, with strikes already disrupting energy systems.

Officials stated technical personnel and government agencies were preparing for more assaults.
