England along with Welsh Pitted in the Same Group for RWC 2027 in Australia

The pool stage draw was conducted by sporting legends including former All Black Dan Carter.

England together with Wales will face off in the same group for the 2027 Rugby World Cup, setting up a major pool stage clash in Australia. They are joined in Group F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and Zimbabwe.

This pairing echoes their memorable meeting in the group phase of the 2015 tournament, where Wales' victory at England's home ground contributed to the English team's shock group stage elimination.

Other Notable Pool Draws

The Irish alongside Scotland also share a group together, just as the scenario from the France 2023 tournament. In that tournament, they secured a convincing victory, with their opponents unable to progress to the quarter-finals.

Los Teros and Os Lobos, both made a strong impression as surprise packages in France, complete that same group.

Significantly, the winners of these two groups cannot meet defending champions and top-ranked the Springboks until the showpiece match, presuming the Springboks top their own group.

Knockout Implications

Should the groups conclude in line with the current global standings, further leading contenders like the All Blacks and France would also be kept apart from both the English and the Irish all the way to the championship decider.

In that scenario, Los Pumas would be the remaining highly-seeded nation on that half of the knockout draw as England and Ireland.

Tournament Hosts Draw Blockbuster Opener

Tournament hosts the Wallabies find themselves together with their trans-Tasman rivals and three-time winners New Zealand in Group A.

Australia will open the World Cup in Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a marquee match aimed at launch the competition.

Elsewhere, reigning champions the Springboks have drawn the Azzurri, Georgia and the Oaks. The French team are grouped with Japan, future hosts the USA and Manu Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Argentina will take on Fiji, Spain and Canada as the tournament expands to twenty-four nations from the 20 who competed in 2023.

The 2027 tournament will introduce a last-16 round for the very first time in Rugby World Cup history.

While the winner of England and Wales's group may avoid some of the rugby's heavyweights early on, they will have to face the runner-up from Group B – most likely Italy – in the first knockout round.

Four of the remaining six pool winners will play a team that finished third from the initial group phase.
