19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a challenging season, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents the player's maiden title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.
The win also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was finished.
But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.
Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the last five games to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a decider.
Moutet rescued four early-game opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
